30 Day Challenge--Day 4

Day 04- A habit that you wish you didn't have, or something that you are looking forward to.

Hola! I hope this blog finds you well. How am I? Well, great! A little crispy from 3 pool days in a row, but when you're trying to be as tan as your Venezuelan boyfriend :) some skin sacrifices have to be made. ;) Juuuuust kidding, I just love the pool and sun! :)

I really like the topics for day 4, and I've decided that I am going to write about both of them! :) I will let you know in advance that the first topic is not going to be so easy for me to write about. It requires me to be super honest and let y'all in on some of my flaws. Oh well, it's a challenge so it's gotta be a little hard, right?!

1. A habit that you wish you didn't have.

I've had lots of bad habits in my life like biting my nails and smoking (Yup, I was a smoker for 10 years--but smoke free now for three years and 4 months!!!), but these things I've "kicked" and no longer battle with. My bad habits now aren't so much things that can be viewed by others, but things that are going on within myself. I'd have to say that one of the worst habits I have now is extreme thinking. For those that don't know what extreme thinking is I'll define it for you: all-or-none and black-and-white type of thinking. I've been like this for a long time and I never even knew what it was until about two years ago. Knowing I think this way wasn't so easy for me to accept, but it really made a lot of sense. For example, I am a very happy person (My big cheeser smile proves that true) but let's say something happens like I bounce a check or I find out I have to do something at work I wasn't expecting. This is enough to completely change my mood from happy to upset in next to no time. But it doesn't stop there. Now that something has gone wrong, everything in my day is bad. Like, since everything cannot be great then everything has to be bad. Isn't that just a nasty way of thinking?!!! I know, I think so too! But anyway, instead of sitting around sulking and thinking that this is the way it has to be, I've learned to recognize when I am doing it and I'm getting pretty good at stopping myself from overreacting and letting small things ruining my day. I just tell myself what I tell my students if they've been reprimanded by me or maybe had an argument with a friend---just because we had a rough patch doesn't mean the whole day has to be bad. I've come to realize that these are words I need to live by too--kind of like practice what you preach Ms. Pride. :)

So even though this is a habit I wish I didn't have, it is one that I am learning to control and hopefully one day end.  Hey, if I can quit smoking then I should be able to quit this too!  How about a little self reflection on your part.  What are some habits that you wish you didn't have?  Are they things that you can change easily with little effort, or are they things that may take time and work to end?  And most importantly, will changing these habits make you feel better about who you are?

2.  Something that you are looking forward to.
Now this is a fun topic to write about. :)  Not as serious as the first one.  So here we go.....
This Saturday, at 2 pm to be exact, Guillermo and I are going ziplining outside of Mt. Airy.  We're going to the Carolina Canopy Ziplines Tour. Ohhhhhh, and I am super excited!  Check out their website here.  I bought the trip from Groupon.  It was one of their daily deals.  At first it was supposed to be a surprise that I wasn't going to share with G until that day. But I told him that I had a surprise for him and I kept bringing it up to drive him crazy not knowing what it was. :P  He asked me for clues more than once, but he's a good guesser (he figured out I was taking him strawberry picking after like three clues) so I kept giving him conflicting clues to throw him off. (I know, how mean!!) I ended up telling him a couple weeks ago over dinner.  With the help of the Internet on his phone, my clues, and a cheesy illustration on a napkin :)  he learned what we were doing.  And he's looking forward to it! :) We've both never done it and so it will be a fun experience for us both.  There is a slight problem though--I'm afraid of heights.  Not too the extreme though.  I'll be scared at first, but I'll be fine once I start.  Guillermo's isn't scared of heights though which is a good thing.
Something else I am looking forward to is Sunday.  Guillermo has a surprise for me.  He however, won't give me clues.  I'm just going to have to wait it out to find out what it is.  I'm hoping it's something pretty cool.  Fingers crossed!! :)

30 Day Challenge--Day 3

Day 03- A picture of you and your friends

This photo was taken at Stephanie A. and Adam's wedding 3-26-11.  From the left: Me, Mallory, Celeste, Stephanie L., Yazz, and Rebecca.  I LOVE this photograph.  I met all these girls about a year and a half ago through my bible study...now called a life group.  These girls are amazing!!  I'm sad that Amanda isn't in the photo with us because she was at the wedding too.  She's also in our bible study.  :)  It's only fair that she is included in this picture blog too.  So here is my lovely friend, Amanda!

I have some pretty amamzing friends! :)

30 Day Challenge--Day 2 AND Mallory and Kyle's Engagement Party

Day 02- The meaning behind your Blogger name

Last year when I decided to start my blog I wanted to name it something fun and I also wanted it to be a reflection of who I am. It really didn't really take long for me to come up with the name. I knew I wanted to incorporate my name into it and I wanted the title to be something catchy. I'm a pretty animated girl and being around me you will know that I can be all over the place-even quite random at times. ;) A Whole Lot of Pride just fits my personality. And plus, I usually have a whole lot to share whenever I'm talking! I'm just a super detailed person girl! So there you have it, the meaning behind my Blogger name. :)

Now....on to the next topic.

Yesterday was my sweet friend, Mallory's engagement party. Her and Kyle are just the cutest couple and they are sooooooo in love! I'm so happy for the both of them. She is going to be the most beautiful bride. I'm really looking forward to her wedding in November. Her bridemaids and sister, Amy organized this great party at Cashmire downtown. The night was a blast! Tasty martinis, good food, and LOTS of dancing!

I took Guillermo with me as my date. Well actually, we took each other! Afterall, his name was on the invitation with mine (which I loved!!) So we got all gussied up and headed out. Lots of friends and family came out to celebrate the occasion, including my awesome friends, Stephanie L, Stephanie A, and Amanda...and their hubbies Chris (married to Stephanie L.), Adam (married to Stephanie A.), and Joe (married to Amanda). Below are pictures from the night!! My favorite pics are of Guillermo and Stephanie L. cutting a rug together to Shakira. :)
A quick pic of me!

Taken at my place before heading out.

 Sweetest friends ever!

I love this picture of Stephanie with Guillermo! :)

On the dance floor.

By the end of the night my feet were killing me!!!  This was even after Guillermo so kindly went to the car to get my back up heels.  The night was worth the blisters for sure!! :) And a day at the pool with Guillermo today was just what we needed after a long night of dancing! :)

30 Day Challenge--Day 1

Day 01- A recent picture of you and 15 interesting facts about yourself

Here we goooooooo.......

It doesn't get more recent than this! I JUST took it! :) It's definitely black and white for a reason...as in I have NO make-up on. Ceci girl was snuggled up beside me so I just had to include her in the pic too! She's so darn cute!!!

Okay...next part...15 interesting facts about me:

**Please note I am not that interesting and this is not easy for me to do!!

1-I am one of 10. YES, 10 children. However, it's unfortunate to write that 3 are with Him. I never knew two of my siblings, Courtney Shannon and Edward Roy Pride III (Eddie) and my sister Tiffany passed at the short age of 17 after a traggic car accident. Oh, and not that it's a bad thing, but I'm not Mormon or Catholic.

2-I'm wrapping up my 6th year of teaching on June 30th. AND, I'm getting a student teacher in the fall! ME...a student teacher!!!! :) (Okay, this is technically 2 facts, but I'm counting them as one.)

3-I didn't get my driver's license until I was almost 21 and I am a lousy driver. I drive entirely too fast and I almost always hit the curb when turning right.

4-I live above my means. This has gotten me into trouble more than once.

5-I have a salty tooth versus a sweet one. I LOVE potato chips. So much so, I can eat an entire bag (a medium sized one) in one sitting. I can't believe I just admitted that. BUT, I haven't done that in years!!

6-When I was in high school (junior year) I skipped a whole lot of school. I hated school!!! And the ironic thing is that I'm a school teacher now and I LOVE it. Now, I get to go to school everyday! Hahaha. My mom and dad tease me about that now. :)

7-My dad taught me how to swim in our inground pool in Whelling, WV. I can't remember how old I was, but I do know I was very young. The day he taught me I was wearing cotton underwear with little yellow flowers on them. After I learned how to swim my dad let me jump off the diving board. Good memory. :)

8-I have a terrible temper. I keep it under control these days, but man I can get MAD and really do some damage with a specific 4 letter word. I'm not so much a reacter anymore so thankfully I don't get too worked up like I used to. Not exactly the best thing to admit. :/

9-I run. Longest distance to date: 10 miles.

10-I LOVE drinking beer at the beach. Miller Lite and the ocean go together hand-in-hand.

11-I take super hot showers.

12. I love going out to eat. Living in Raleigh is so great because they are sooooo many fun places to eat.

13-When I was 21 my boyfriend and I did a three week road trip across the south west. When we were in TX we decided to go into Mexico. So we headed into Ciudad Juárez. Ummmmm, have you heard how dangerous this place is?!? Yeah, I didn't know how dangerous it was at the time. I can remember he and I taking a bus into town and not having a clue what anyone was saying to us. Not the smartest thing to do!

14-I'm a horrible singer but I love to sing. Especially in the car! ;)

15-I really want to settle down and get married. I'm not rushing it though. I don't ever want to divorce. I want children too. 2, maybe 3. I HAVE to have a daughter. :)

So there you have it! :) 15 interesting facts about me. I hope I didn't bore you tears! This was actually kind of fun! :)

Now.....POOL TIME! I've got a new book and a few beers in the fridge. I'm looking forward to laying out for a few hours and relaxing!

See you tomorrow! :)

Hey Ya'll! Happy Memorial Day weekend! I hope y'all have something fun planned. Not so much for me, but relaxation for sure is in order!!

So anyway, I really like blogging!! I know, I know, you're probably thinking to yourself that I go through spells when I write and other times when I don't. So to keep me in blogging mode I've decided to do a 30 day blog challenge. I actually got the idea from my great friend Billy who did a 30 day music challenge. The idea is that you blog something different everyday for 30 days. Hence the name 30 day challege! A music challenge isn't so much my style, so I did a little Googling to find that just right challenge and I stumbled across this!

Anyway, just got out of the shower. I need to get myself together and ready for a date with my Guillermo. :)

And don't forget to tune in for the next 30 days!!! :D

Track Out Update!

I tracked out last Tueday. I was more than ready for a break. The track in was 10 weeks. The longest one of the year. I have no clue how I survived traditional school my first two years of teaching?! I was so in need of a break!! So last Tuesday, I packed up my classroom and prepared it for the next group coming in behind me. I scooted out shortly after 3:30 and have been enjoying my time off since.

Now being broke as can be, I'm having a "stay-cation" this track out. Track 2 (my track)has a longer track out this time around because of holidays during previous track outs. 18 school days off!! I love it!! I had a teacher workday last Wednesday which was pretty productive and stress free. Then I subbed Thursday, Friday, and Monday. Thursday I was a 4th grade teacher at Penny Road. The day was a breeze and although the kiddos were pretty chatty, I didn't get upset because it's to be exprected when there's a sub. Friday I subbed at my school for my friend Angie and taught 2nd grade. Easy day! :) On Monday I subbed right down the road from where I live at Dilliard Drive. I was a 1st grade teacher. K and 1 are my leat favorite grades to sub for because the kids are pretty needy. It was still a good day though.

Yesterday (Tuesday) I knew I was going to take a pool day for myself. So I headed to the pool at 10:30, with snacks, drinks, and a Nicholas Sparks novel for a day of sun and relaxation. I also had a chance to journal while I was at the pool. The temp was HOT, but the water was perfect! I spent 4 1/2 vegging out, reading and wading around the pool.

My view for the afternoon! :)

By the time I headed back to my apartment I was feeling a little burnt on my back. After a shower and a nap, I woke up to MAJOR sunburn pretty much everywhere!! Picture this, a cooked lobster and then me! :/ Hahaha..I definitely overdid it. Fortunately, I have a great boyfriend who took care of me when I went over to his place yesterday evening. He didn't even pick on me which he totally have could with how red I was!

I had planned to sub today at Carpenter Elem. in a 4th grade class, but after a horrible night's sleep and stinging sunburn, I flaked out and cancelled my job. I felt pretty guilty, but then I realized that I don't HAVE to work everyday of my break. So here I am, sitting on my couch with my cat Ceci, watching CNN and having coffee. I'm enjoying being a lazy bones! :) A nap for sure is in order today! I'm not going to be a total bum today though. I'm planning to hit the gym this evening for a cardio class. I haven't decided if I'm doing the 5:30 cardio class or the 6:30 muscle conditioning class? Hmmmmm, I'm leaning more towards the 5:30 class. I'd love to run Lake Johnson now, but the weather is too hot and humid and I don't do well running in the heat. I could run later this evening, but I invited Guillermo over tonight to watch a movie with me. I'm thinking about Country Strong. Most everyone I've talked to said the movie was really good.

So there you have it. A brief track out update! I'm looking forward to the weekend. I have a scheduled pool date with the lovely Yazz and my sweet friend Malory is having her engagement party Saturday night. I got the invite in the mail a few weeks back and Guillermo's name was on the envelope too. I loved seeing our name on there together!!! The night for sure is going to be a great time! And don't you worry loyal blog followers, I will have plenty of pictures to post from the evening!! :)

Laura's Bridal Shower

Today was my friend, Laura's bridal shower. I know Laura through my ex boyfriend, Thomas. Laura is his cousin. While Thomas and I were dating I became close with his family. When he and I broke up it was sad not just because he and I weren't together anymore, but also because I wouldn't get to spend time with his family anymore. :( But fortunately, not only were Thomas and I able to still be friends (it may have taken some time) but I also got to still talk with his family. So much so, that I was invited to Laura's bridal shower, bachelorette party, AND her wedding. It feels pretty awesome to be included in all of these things because I really love Tom's family. A LOT! :)

So today I headed to High Point to attend Laura's bridal shower. It was really nice too! Great food and deserts (which I ate plenty of) and just lots of laughs. I have to admit that this was my first bridal shower I've ever been to. Weird, I know. But it was. I had no idea that the bows from the gifts were used to make the bride's bouquet for the wedding rehearsal. Geesh, where have I been?! Had I known this I would have put a bow on the gift I gave Laura. Anyway, we played a fun little 6 question game on how well you know the bride. I only got 2 out of the 6 questions correct. I had to laugh too because her sister, Katie (one of the winners of the game) only got 4 out of 6 of the questions correct. I wonder how my sisters will do at my bridal shower when I have mine.....30 years from now..hahahaha

So I snapped lots-o-pictures and I wanted to share some of the highlights. I'm sad to write that my battery died after Laura opened her last gift so I wasn't able to get any with me and the family. However, Katie (Laura's sister) took plenty and I'm sure to see them on Facebook.

Katie--she's so darn cute! :)

Baby Emma. She was the happiest baby I have ever met! And so precious!! :)

Allyson (Another of Tom's cousins--I believe she may be his first cousin) She was the host of the game we played.

The bridal shower was a lot of fun. I couldn't help though to think about having my own one day. I'm looking forward to us girls getting together again for the bachelorette party. Now, I don't know if I'll be able to post as many pictures from that night!! ;)

#7 Graduates!!

It has finally happened. All 7 of the Pride kids have graduated from college! :) I bet my parents are jumping for joy. They put all 7 of their kids through college. I mean, how lucky are we?! All 7 of us graduated with different degrees.

Courtney-Criminal Justice
Ashley (ME)-Elementary Education
Dominique-Economics (now she's working on her PhD in Alaska--go sis!!!!)

On May, 7th the final Pride kid graduated college. My brother, Roy (he goes by Edward to everyone else) graduated from Marshall University in Huntington, WV. Everyone was there this weekend but Dominique. She's in Alaska and it wouldn't have worked out for her to come in for just a few days. Although the graduation was loooooooooong (3 hours) it was so great cheering for him when it was his turn!

A few pics of the fam after the graduation:

I'm so proud of my little bro!!

Jaclyn and Roy

I insisted he pose for a picture. :)

Courtney (Lulu) with the graduate.

At this point I was driving my brother nuts with pictures. hahaha :)

My brother's graduation also fell on Mother's Day weekend. My sister Meredith couldn't make it to Roy's graduation because she was sick, so we had breakfast for Mother's Day AND cookie cake (my favorite) for my brother. Yep, cookie cake after breakfast! :)

Here are some pictures from breakfast.

Yummy cookie cake...no really it was sooooooo good! :D

Graduation gift from Jaclyn and me. He'll appreciate it more when he uses it! ;)

I love my family. And I'm so proud of my brother. Next stop for him--grad school. I think he's going to Pitt. I tried talking him into going to NC State and living with me, but he wasn't too interested. Hey, I think I'm cool and would be fun to live with!!! :P
