My PC's sick!

I half killed my computer. :(  I stepped on it.  Yup, I put my laptop on the floor by the chair I was sitting in and when I got up I stepped on it.  I really didn't put too much pressure on it either.  It didn't matter though.  When I opened it up to use it this is what I saw staring back at me.

How ugly is that?!  I called an electronic repair place and was quoted between $200-$250 to replace the LCD panel.  Gosh, that's half the cost of the computer!!!  I was going to wait until January to have it fixed, but I just can't look at this ugly crack that long.  I reached out to a friend today and after taking the screen apart myself (YES, me) I was able to give him the code and order a new one off of EBay for $60!!!  YES!!!!!!  It will be here Saturday.  I wonder how hard it will be to replace the panel?  I'll let you know!!!

The moral of the story:  Don't leave your laptop on the floor!

4th Annual Eve Carson 5k for Education

This year marks the 3rd year in a row that I've run the Eve Carson 5k for Education.  Most know of Eve Carson.  For those that don't, she was a student at UNC Chapel Hill.  She was the student body president and a senior.

Eve was the victim of a senseless murder on March 5, 2008.  Her death was a horrible tragedy.  It really makes me sad to think of the things she went through in the last hours of her life.  The two men who committed the crime were caught.  One is serving a life sentences without parole and the other man's trial began this week.

UNC organizes a 5k in her honor each year.   I love that her memory has not been forgotten.  To be apart of something that remembers her is a really great feeling!

This year I ran the race with my friend Tom.

 Tom--before the race

ME--excited to run!

We both set personal goals for the race.  He wanted to finish the run in less than 20 minutes and I wanted to run the race in under 28.  Tom and I both met our fitness goals!  I finished the race in 27:34. :)  Sweeeeeeet!!!! :) :) :)

Girl's Best Friend!

I just love Yazz's dog Ace Man Jr.--AKA Acie Poo!  He is so snuggly sweet and I can't get enough of him. :)  Yesterday Yazz was in my room and Acie followed.  He immediately jumped into my bed and laid down for a little spooning action.  Yazz and I were both melting at the sweetness of it all! :)

Check him out.

Awwwwwwww, sweetest pooch ever!!!

I've decided that eventually when I have my own home I'm adopting a dog from a shelter.  I'm going to find the sweetest fully grown pooch in there and take him home.  I just love animals!!!!

I've known my friend, Yasmeen (Yazz) for almost 2 years.  I met her through my bible study.  Her and I also live together! I moved in at the end of August.  I just love her!!! She's so fun to be around and honest too which is really important.  I really appreciate her and the things she does for me.

Dinner at Hibernian.

Yazz and Eddie have been together for a long time.  They're great together.  They crack me up and I love hanging out with them.  They are especially cool because I've been the "third wheel" a lot lately.  (And just for the record it sucks being a third wheel!!!!)  Anyway, they got engaged at the beginning of October.  He proposed to her at the fair.  On the Ferris Wheel.  When the fireworks were going off.  When she told me the next day I squealed and jumped up and down!!! haha

Yazz and Eddie

A couple weeks ago Yazz asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding.  ME!!!!!!! :)  How honored am I that she would ask me to be in her wedding?!  She unofficially asked with a note to me on my bathroom mirror and with two boxes--a YES box and a NO box. I checked YES!!! hahaha.  She officially asked each of her 6 bridesmaids with a super pretty bouquet of flowers.  Check them out!!! :)

I'm so excited for Yazz and Eddie's marriage!  They're getting married on October 13, 2012.  Being a bridesmaid is going to be so fun!  I love my friend!! :)

NC State vs UNC

On 11/5 NC State played UNC.  Many of my friends are State fans and planned to tailgate and go to the game.  I didn't go to State, and to be honest I'm not much of a football fan either.  It's not that I don't want to be, folks.  It's just that I don't know the rules of the game so it's pretty boring for me to watch.  I so need to find a boyfriend who will teach me all the rules which will then transform me into a screaming, crazy football fanatic! :)

Anyway, so a tailgate shin-dig was planned before the 12:30 kickoff.  Now I need to be perfectly clear and let y'all know that while I may not care to watch a football game, a tailgate is a whole other thing.  I LOVE tailgating.  Fun fun fun!!!  I was totally in for a day of fun with my friends.  So Yazz, Eddie (Yazz's fiance), Celeste and hubby, Mike, Kim, myself, and a few others I didn't know until the tailgate all had some fun in the breezy, cold sun!

Here are a few pics to share!

Hanging out before the tailgate.  Yazzie let me wear one of her State shirts.

 Kim!  LOVE her!

 Yazz showing off her ring!

We made Eddie pose too.  :o)

 Yay for great friends!

 Love Eddie's face!

 Sweet couple!

Yazzle Dazzle up to no good! ;-)

 A quick pic with Paul.

 Group pic!

Celeste popped in for a visit.  Hahahaha

The tailgate was a total blast and state killed UNC 13-0.  A good day. :)

Fair well old friend!

I totaled my car on October 27th at 4:20 pm.  I was really sick that day.  I had cancelled my three parent teacher conferences and was on my way to my bed to sleep.  It's amazing at how quickly things can happen. One minute I'm cruzing down the road to Adel's "Someone Like You" and the next minute my air bags are deploying and then I'm sitting on the side of US 1.

It all happened so fast.  I don't remember pulling my car off the road and honestly I can't believe I didn't hit the median.  It could have been so much worse.  God and my sister were watching over me.  Some people know about my sister Tiffany and some don't.  Tiffany was my older sister.  She was my parent's first born.  She died tragically as a result of a car accident.  Five days after her accident she died of massive brain trauma.   She was only 17 years old.

I didn't tell my parents about the car accident immediately.  They were out of town on a trip my siblings and I had bought for them last Christmas.  They were away in San Antonio, Texas and there was just no reason to worry them.  I waited until that Saturday when they were home.  I told my dad first.  My mom was pretty upset when I talked to her about it.  You see, my accident was the same day and time as Tiffany's accident.  24 years apart.  I don't view that as a coincidence.  I know my sister was there with me.  She's always watching over me.

Here are some additional photos I took of my car when I went to get all my belongings and sign over the title to my insurance company.

Anyway, I truly believe this happened to remind me that God is present in my life.  I want to be the best Christian I can, but over the past few months was feeling so convicted about my choices and actions.  I was lost.  I know that this was God telling me that he is here to take care of me.  I always try to control everything in my life and do it all myself.  I never want to burden anyone.  Even God.  But after this wreck I just didn't worry.  I kept positive and gave my burden to God.  I truly believed he would take care of me.  And you know what?  He did.  Everything worked out perfectly.  God provided, and just 1 week after I totaled my girl I had a new car.  I'm the proud owner of a 2009 Nissan Versa. :0)

Erin took this photo of me after our trail run at Umstead Park.

I have to admit that I miss my Escape.  I don't miss the money I spent on gas though.  Also, I have to add that I used to be a pretty reckless driver.  I drove way too fast, took my eyes off the road too often, and played on my cell phone a lot.  Since wrecking that's changed.  I've realized how lucky I have been all these years to have never had an accident while being so reckless.  Fortunately I can say that I was following all the traffic rules when I wrecked my car.  You want to know something pretty crazy?  That morning when I was driving to work I was thinking to myself how lucky I was to have never been in a car accident.  How weird is it that I was thinking that and then wrecked that afternoon.  Kind of eerie if you ask me!

I want to end my post with verses from Matthew 11:28-30

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

There is no denying the truth in these words.  I have them hanging on my bathroom mirror as a daily reminder. :)
